FIGT New York Tri-State Affiliate

The FIGT Tri-State Affiliate (FIGT NY-NJ-CT) was created as a community for global-minded individuals to share their experiences, learn from each other and to continue the work of FIGT.

Our goals:

  • to be a resource for support and education for families in global transition residing in the greater New York area
  • to bring together representatives of the corporate, diplomatic and academic fields, creating an opportunity to share experiences and best practices in how to support global staff and their families
  • to collaborate with groups and associations sharing FIGT's vision of supporting global citizens
  • to maintain the energy and share the knowledge of the FIGT Annual Conference, throughout the year
  • to empower the international community in the NY Tri-State area.

Meet FIGT NY Tri-State's Co-founders:

Sandra Bissell is a Japanese-Italian-Brazilian citizen , who has been living the expat life for more than two decades - as an immigrant, an expat and even as an expatriate in her own country. She is married to a TCK-adult and the proud mother of three third-culture-kids.

During her several moves between Brazil, Japan, Switzerland and the United States, Sandra has enjoyed a variety of roles in marketing, ESL teaching, international real estate, relocation and most recently as a professional transition coach and founder of the ExpatJoy Blog – Passionate Global Living - a blog about the joys and struggles of international living.

She is a senior practitioner of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian-martial-art-dance and enjoys ethnic food, learning languages, and traveling, of course!

Amel Derragui is a global nomad and a marketing communications advisor. After a career in advertising and branding, she quit her job, founded her first company Blink and C and kicked off her entrepreneurial journey while moving from a country to another. She helps entrepreneurs grow their business, focus and simplify their processes with a strong vision and marketing strategies that fit to their resources. Amel is also the founder of Tandem Nomads, a podcast show that provides inspiration and resources for expat spouses who struggle to thrive in global transitions and want to build a portable business.

Katarina Holm-DiDio grew up in Finland and relocated to the USA some 18 years ago.  As the founder of her own consulting firm Katarina is a Corporate Trainer and Global Career Management Consultant with experience ranging from global HR, talent management, intercultural competence and career management training and coaching.

She launched her career in the US with Columbia University soon to be followed by the United Nations where she still consults, in addition to providing her services to the global mobility industry. Kat is a writer who has published with Bloomberg BNA International HR Network, Wall Street Journal, and the Forum for International Trade Trading Canada. She enjoys travel, film, art and bicycling.
