Sarah Black
Communications Co-Director
With almost 30 years of both in-house and agency communications and marketing experience - in the UK, Ireland, Norway, and the USA - Sarah brings a depth of experience and expertise to her role on the Board.
She has worked with global teams helping them to understand the impact of culture on their communications, with famous big brands, numerous small businesses and many not for profits and helped them all to change the world. She has designed and developed award winning communications campaigns tackling issues such as anti-racism, environmental education, volunteering, fostering & adoption, and peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Sarah’s business, Athru Communications has moved with her around the world delivering services locally and globally, including strategic communications planning, training and public relations.
Sarah is a former Director of Smarts Communicate, a global PR company, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, a former member of its Executive and a member of the Public Relations Consultants Association (UK), and has held Board positions in education and the arts. She has First Class Honours degrees in English and Psychology.
Sarah first became involved with FIGT in 2016 as an additional member of the Parfitt Pascoe Writing Residents team for FIGT’s 2017 conference in The Hague. She joined FIGT’s Communications team as a volunteer in 2018 as its Social Media Lead.
Originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, Sarah currently lives in Cumbria in the UK with her husband and her two globally mobile rescue dogs who are much loved by her social media followers. She previously lived in Stavanger, Norway and Sugar Land, Texas.
