GLOBALLY RENOWNED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
The FIGT 2015 conference theme -- 'Finding Home: Amidst Global Change' -- is set to ignite your mind at #FIGT15 on March 6-8th, 2015. Meet our keynote speakers:
Teja Arboleda
Teja Arboleda is the president of Entertaining Diversity, Inc. which focuses on diversity and inclusion programming through entertainment. Arboleda produces documentaries for PBS and Discovery, and won an Emmy Award in 1993 and two Telly Awards (2009 and 2013). He has a Masters in Education, and as professor, teaches courses on race and ethnic relations, communications and filmmaking. Arboleda's films such as Crossing The Line: Multiracial Comedians, have stirred considerable discussions on identity, race and culture in the news including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and National Public Radio. His Discovery Education series Diversity Elementary has been a big success in many countries.
Arboleda also develops education-based iPhone and iPad apps - his app, RaceOff, challenges all notions of racial categories. He is the author of In The Shadow of Race, and is currently co-writing and illustrating Mixed Feelings: An Illustrated Guide for Mixed-race Kids and Their Families, and also a series of illustrated fairytale books featuring characters that reflect America's diversity.
Arboleda is Filipino-Chinese / African-American-Native-American and German-Danish, and grew up in Japan. He has performed over 900 shows since 1993.
For our opening Keynote, he is presenting RaceOff™: A Pigment of Your Imagination.
Drs. Doug Ota
Drs. Doug Ota is a child psychologist, consultant, presenter, and author. His father descends from Japanese roots, while his mother traces her ancestry to England. Both their union and separation taught Ota how to grow up between worlds. He has made a career out of wondering where he - and others - belong.
Ota migrated east to study Religion at Princeton University, then further east to study Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands, going on to become a registered child psychologist with the Dutch Psychological Association. For many years, he was a High School counselor at the American School of The Hague. He now works in private practice.
Half of Ota's professional activities are devoted to counseling with children and adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. The other half is devoted to consulting with international schools and organizations on how to build programs to address the challenges and opportunities of mobility. He is the author of the recently published book Safe Passage: What Mobility Does to People and What International Schools Should Do About It, already hailed as a "classic in the TCK literature." Ota lives in The Hague, in the Netherlands, with his wife and three children. For fun, he runs marathons.
As closing Keynote, he is presenting Don't Leave Without Taking Your Vitamin "G": Why Goodbyes are Good for You.

MAKE THE MOST OF THE FIGT CONFERENCE
Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of your #FIGT15 experience, whether it's your first, second, third, fourth, or fifth... (well, you get the picture):
- DO bring your camera, your phone, your sketchpad, or any other way of capturing the event.
- DO get there early. Really early. We're serious. Early. Did we say "Early"? Yes, early. Lots of socialization and networking will be going on.
- DO be prepared to give everyone and anyone your Twitter name. (You don't use Twitter? Get on it!)
- DO use hashtag #FIGT15. Now that you're on Twitter, DO tweet about the event, before, during and after; tagging your tweets with #FIGT15 allows everyone can find you.
- DO take the chance to introduce yourself to anyone and everyone, online, on social media and in person.
- DO be nice to all the FIGT folks and volunteers. (They're all volunteers, actually. And they're all giving up oodles of their time to help make this an incredible experience for everyone.)
- DON'T forget how hard it is for some of these folks to talk in public. They have significant experience, insights and/or research findings to share.
- DON'T be surprised if some discussions invoke an emotional response. You'll be with your tribe.
- DON'T be a wallflower. Talk to people in line while you're waiting to get into the venue. Talk to people while you're in the lobby. Talk to people during the opening social hour, at meals, between presentations and events, while you're milling about.
- DON'T even think about leaving without exchanging contact information with all of the interesting people you meet.
- DON'T think you're going to make it? We will miss you. Stay abreast of what's going on at the conference via Twitter (#FIGT15), and start planning to attend next year!

FIGT CONFERENCE SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES STILL AVAILABLE

Considering sponsorship of the upcoming 2015 FIGT Conference? Here's what one sponsor had to say:
"The recognition we received as an FIGT sponsor was abundant," ArborBridge Associate Director Lisa Helmers reported after a recent conference in Washington, DC. "Unlike trade shows or massive conferences, the intimate setting of FIGT allows for ample interaction between sponsors and attendees. You are absolutely guaranteed high-quality visibility and interested visitors to your table during the conference."
It's not too late to join FIGT's team of exceptional sponsors. More information on sponsorship packages here.
