Communications Director
Originally from India, Kavyashi has spent her adult life in the US, China, and now Canada. Growing up in India, she led a TCK (Third Culture Kid) life due to her father’s service background, which significantly shaped her formative years. It took her a long time to realize that her true purpose is to help people overcome the challenges of finding a sense of belonging while navigating cultural differences, language barriers, and unfamiliar environments within a globally mobile community. By combining her HR background and passion for communications, she aims to foster connections among individuals who share similar experiences, creating supportive communities and meaningful relationships that make any place feel like home.
In addition to her HR roles across Shanghai, San Francisco, Hyderabad, and Toronto, Kavyashi has led several passion projects. She served as the editor for Shanghai Mama magazine for two years, advocated for the mental health of trailing spouses for Shanghai Community Center, and contributed to various forums in both Asia and the US. She also led a newsletter connecting multiple generations within the Indian diaspora in Toronto and successfully published a magazine titled Tea Garden to Toronto, which commemorated 50 years of ASCCA, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate in Canada. She brings her global work experience to effectively navigate the multicultural workforce in Canada, helping to create human-centric design solutions to HR challenges.
Kavyashi currently resides in Oakville, a beautiful suburb of Toronto, with her twin TCK teens, partner/husband, and their beloved retriever. She is highly engaged in her community, advocating for local libraries in need of financial support. As an executive for the Friends of Library (FOL), she organized their quarterly book sales to raise both awareness and funds. Additionally, she leads the local chapter of the "No Kids Go Hungry" initiative for her neighborhood school.
Having been a long-time follower of FIGT-led forums and resources, Kavyashi is thrilled to now be a part of the team.
