Virtual Coffee with Carine Bormans and Marie Geukens

Date: Monday, May 11, 2020

Time: 11:00 am EDT

Location: Online (via Zoom)

Cost: FREE. Open to all.

Carine Bormans, teacher and mother of two adult sons, is an experienced expat-partner who lived in Kuwait, Brussels, Vienna, Paris, Geneva, Nairobi, Kinshasa and lives at present with her husband in Bamako, Mali. When in Brussels, she was working two successive contracts as Family Officer at the HR-department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, where she specialized in training embassy staff and their spouses about life abroad and after returning to Belgium. This extensive experience resulted in the development of a practical, easy to use and comprehensive model for expat-partners who find working abroad the obvious choice. By sharing this model, Carine hopes she can help young expat-partners to take up the challenge of living abroad while maintaining a professional activity.

Marie Geukens studied Germanic languages and journalism and has moved as an expat partner to Budapest, Damascus and Ottawa. Married and mother of three adult children, she now lives in Brussels and is editor-in-chief of Marie Claire Belgium magazine. As such Marie is involved in many empowerment initiatives and hearing the idea of Carine, she saw immediately the opportunity to co-write a book and help out many spouses abroad. After 15 years 'at home', Marie will move again as an expat partner in the summer of 2021.
