FIGT Melbourne Affiliate meets “Story is Connection”, a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to provide an inclusive community for International students, help them explore their authentic stories through a creative and theatrical process, and collaborate with their stakeholder.
LIMBO Film is the first virtual project of Story is Connection(SIC), supported by the City of Melbourne Covid-19 Arts Grant.
During Covid-19 lockdown, SIC invited 21 international students from Tanzania to Thailand, Bangladesh to Brazil, China to Colombia to share their unique isolation stories with us.
LIMBO is directed by renowned artistic director Catherine Simmonds OAM, in collaboration with filmmaker Irene Metter. The stories are artistically curated, capturing international students' struggles and ways of coping.
The movie captures:
- the effects of lockdown on student’s mental health
- the financial struggle due to loss of jobs
- the “limbo” of leaving or staying; pursuing dreams in Melbourne or going back home for safety…
“We will screen the LIMBO film so the audience will have a chance to look closely at the authentic stories of international students. More importantly, the film will allow you to feel what they feel. SIC hopes the effect of shared feelings and emotions will bring greater attention and awareness to the international students’ community” says Feifei Liao, Managing Director of SIC.
The screening will be followed by an introduction to the “Story in connection” project and Q&A session.
