FIGT Community Engagement Director -Role Description
The FIGT Mission:
Families in Global Transition (FIGT) is a caring community for the globally mobile where curiosity, connection, and collaboration happen.
Role Overview:
The Families in Global Transitions Affiliates and community groups are defined as individual associations of people with a common interest in the mission of FIGT. The Affiliates and community groups are organized to better serve people and organizations living and operating in specific regions or around a topic of interest, such as Coaching and Counseling or Parenting.
The Community Engagement Director is tasked with liaising, guiding, and supporting Affiliate and community group leaders. The Community Engagement Director serves as a voice for Affiliates, FIGT Research Network (FRN), and community groups on the FIGT Board of Directors by providing insights, updates, and feedback from the leaders and supporters.
The Community Engagement Director reports to the Vice President.
Top Responsibilities and Tasks:
Serve as a point person for all Affiliates and community groups, including providing regular updates from Board meetings.
Develop, promote, and oversee Affiliates, FRN and community groups, including the introduction of new Affiliates and community groups.
Recognize the unique needs for each Affiliate, FRN and community group in FIGT while adhering as much as possible to Affiliates policies and the FIGT bylaws.
Participate in the Affiliate, FRN and community group events as much as possible to show support and serve as a link to the FIGT Board.
Respond to inquiries about Affiliates, FRN, and community groups, including providing a zoom account for Affiliates.
Advise Affiliate, FRN leaders on FIGT policies and guidelines in conducting events.
Collaborate with the Membership team and the Board to effectively communicate the importance of contributions, advocating for a fee structure that supports the financial sustainability of FIGT while fostering positive relationships with Affiliates, the FRN, and community groups.
Ensure timely submission of Affiliate, FRN and community group news to be included in the newsletter.
Fulfill monthly report for the Board Meeting.
Time Requirement:
Approximately 10-15 hours per month. Time commitment may fluctuate as needs arise. The majority of work will be completely via email but anticipate time dedicated to video calls when needing to connect with an Affiliate.
Numbers below indicate how much time is spent each month on fulfilling the duties. This does not include the amount of time taken to participate in monthly Board Meetings and the additional time the Director might volunteer to help others’ work on the Board.
Please note: the time invested in this role may increase/decrease depending on the strategy and needs for each year and when the Forum takes place. All Directors are expected to participate in the monthly two-hour Board meetings (may require late or early morning calls).

Full term of office will commence on October 1, 2025 and end on September 30, 2027. We request that you are available from August onwards to start the onboarding process.
Critical Skills and Experience:
Ability to work virtually and across time zones
Ability to offer leadership and guidance to Affiliate leaders
Skilled in writing guidelines and policies for easy application/adoption in diverse situations
Support problem-solving and creativity when issues arise
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Experience of running or participating in an Affiliate or community group is an asset
Patience, flexibility, active listener, consensus-builder
Outstanding skills to lead informally and align communications with other Board Directors such as Nominations, Membership, Development Director, and Research Network
Comfort with diversity and fast-moving change are essential
General Responsibilities & Requirements for all Board Directors
All Board Members are expected to be able to use Google Drive and WhatsApp and work in virtual environments. Board members have to be prepared to learn to use other online platforms if needed.They are also expected to be able to help promote and network for the FIGT Forum and FIGT membership, even if it is not a stated part of their role description.
Must be a current FIGT member.
Must have demonstrated commitment to and an understanding of FIGT through attending a previous conference/Forum, volunteering on a committee, or attendance at other FIGT events.
Ability to commit to 25+hours every month of volunteer work for Board position role
Attend the monthly virtual Board Meetings. The Board Meetings take place once a month and are two hours long. Meetings are across time zones and may require working at irregular and sometimes difficult hours. If needs arise, there may be more than one each month.
Attend the 2026 Forum, including the Board meetings which may take place the day before and the day after the Forum.
Prior experience managing cross-cultural teams in diverse locations.
Prior experience working online using collaborative platforms such as Google Drive, Zoom, WhatsApp, and Doodle.
Available for on-boarding training from August and September 2025 (including attending the September Board Meeting and AGM, meeting with predecessor for onboarding, chairing a committee meeting (if applicable), and meeting with Executive Committee members to whom the position reports (FIGT Vice President).
